June 6th, 2008 - Memphis

Clara and I put in a half a day at work while Rachel and Emily finished their packing. Our plan is to make Memphis tonight - an easy enough first day - then put in a long hard day tomorrow and end up close to the Florida state line in Georgia, setting us up for an easy day on Sunday. We finished work, swung by the house and packed up the girls, our stuff, the dogs and their stuff, and off we rolled.

First stop, Grandma and Grandpa's. They'll be watching the dogs while we're gone so we made sure they had everything they'd need. They already had set up a small area outside for the dogs to roam around and they'd have easy access to the utility room and garage. They should be fine, both the dogs and the ol' folks. Emily will miss her dogs fiercely, I know.

We said our goodbyes and were on the highway by 2:00 p.m. By 9:00, here's what was in our bug spattered windshield:

A very shaky picture from my Blackberry of Memphis as we crossed the Mississippi.

Let's see if I can get a better picture:

Nope. Can't. That'll teach me to try to shoot through the windshield at night.

We checked in and Clara had booked us a fine hotel. There'd be a breakfast bar in the morning for us to tank up and then we'll hit the road again. Tomorrow will be a long day.
